vsm.net Case Studies - Switching to Macintosh
#1 - Professional Recording Studio / School
Unity Gain Recording
When VSM began working with owner Anthony Iannucci at Unity Gain in the 1990s, using Mac was a no-brainer. The professional recording industry has always been and continues to be Mac partial. But what Anthony realized was that over the next decade, many of the tools that would become crucial to expanding his everyday business operations would be Mac-first or Mac-only.
Now operating two studios that are networked together wirelessly with multiple edit and mastering suites, Anthony’s G5s and iMacs run all the software responsible for high-quality recording, editing and mastering of virtually unlimited tracks of audio thanks to Macintosh technology. Day to day business including invoicing, accounting, and recorded song selection is processed daily on the latest MAc technologies with a client and music database; both built in Filemaker Pro for Unity Gain and brilliantly developed by the VSM design team.
International and national clients request timely audio and video files which are sent via broadband to and from the studio facility around the world. Files are worry-free, with integrity preserved as virus scans are a thing of rarity, not necessity. Most graduates and students of the Institute observe this environment and employ VSM to design and host mac based mainframe operations for their up and coming business endeavors. The Macintosh has enabled Unity Gain Recording to grow safely and exponentially into a one-stop recording and duplication facility. Recording artists, both corporate and musical, walk in with an idea and walk out with a professional competitive Compact Disc ready for distribution.
#2 - Event Production Company
The Powerhouse Group
Alan James fought for years with his Windows network. It seemed like as soon as he needed more hard drive space, he also needed to upgrade his OS. This left him incompatible with the rest of the company's computers (contrary to popular belief, not all versions of Windows are created equal)! Enter VSM.NET: After years of hosting his websites and email with VSM, Alan finally took our cue and tried a Macintosh. That was in 2004. In less than two years, we helped him coordinate all three locations of his agency into a Mac-based WAN, comprised of iMacs, towers and laptops for sales personnel.
"What VSM and Mac have done for me is make my life simpler and much more efficient. I have a lot more time to concentrate on fulfilling my clients' needs and making money instead of buying virus software and having a computer Geek come by to fix things! I can’t contain my pleasure at having made the switch to Mac. I could kick myself for not having done it sooner!"
